Kern County will open up a new state-of-the-art justice facility on Wednesday.
The new $126.7 million jail is an upgrade for the county. It will also provide development and opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office.
The new facility has been 10 years in the making and expands the current 2,400-inmate capacity by 822 beds, includes three separate buildings and covers 220,000 square feet., according to the Kern County Administrative Office.
The funding for the new jail was provided byAB-900.
The jail will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kern County Jail Lerdo Facility.
The public is invited to attend the event.
